A 'violent and predatory' rapist and a murderer faces jail after being convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and raping and beating a stranger.

Marvin Samuels, 31, of Conduit Way, Stonebridge, stabbed Sharlana Diedrick, the mother of his child, 14 times in a street near his home in September last year and left her to die.

He denied murder,  but was found guilty by an Old Bailey jury today.

Samuels admitted the rape and causing grevious bodily harm of a 42-year-old stranger in the Welsh Harp Reservoir in Neasden. He was found not guilty of her attempted murder.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Simon Pickford, said: "This has been a shocking case. Samuels has proven himself a violent predatory rapist and a murderer.

"He targeted a woman simply walking her dog, dragged her into woods, stripped her naked and then raped and savagely beat her.

"Samuels then returned to his estranged partner - the mother of his child - and just hours later had stabbed her to death, inflicting 14 separate wounds. He deserves to be behind bars for many years to come and I'm pleased his claim of mental health issues was rejected by the jury."

Sharlana was found shortly past 11pm on Saturday, September 29, last year in a car parked in Wyborne Way, Stonebridge.

The 32-year-old, from Watford, was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, but was pronounced dead after her arrival.

A post mortem examination gave cause of death as multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Earlier that day Samuels had raped, beaten and strangled the other victim at the Welsh Harp Reservoir.

He gave himself up at Wembley Police Station the following day and in a police interview said he attacked Miss Diedrick and that he would have stabbed her more if he hadn't hurt his hand.

The pair had been in an on-off relationship since 2007 and had a child together.

In court, Samuels claimed mental health problems had led him to carry out the crimes, but this was rejected by the jury.

Samuels will be sentenced on Monday.
