Violinists play classical music as staff and media wait for the arrival of Her Majesty The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip.

Everything is in place as over 1,000 people wait to mark another historic royal moment for Heathrow airport at terminal 2 - The Queen's Terminal.

The welcoming committee will include both senior members of staff as well as staff involved in the construction of the building or are part of the team now working in the new terminal.

John Holland- Kate, Heathrow development director and chief executive designate, said: "Heathrow is delighted to welcome Her Majesty to open her new airport terminal.

Today is a celebration of the great work by many people and many organisations from across the country to create a new front door for the UK."

Her Majesty will unveil a commemorative plaque and the Secretary of state for transport, Patrick McLoughlin, will give a short speech.
