Victoria Tube station was evacuated during rush hour on Wednesday (August 17) morning after a fire alert.

Commuters were cleared from the underground station after firefighters were called shortly after 7am.

The gates were re-opened about 20 minutes later, and London Fire Brigade said it had been a false alarm.

The official Victoria line Twitter account reported the station was open again at 7.39am, and apologised to passengers whose journeys had been disrupted.

A number of passengers took to Twitter to complain about the delay to their journeys, with some expressing their initial panic.

Matt Murphy told on Twitter how announcements said the closure was "due to a reported emergency", with Tube staff saying there had been a fire.

Transport for London was reporting a good service on all lines following the incident.

The Night Tube is set to launch this Friday (August 19) on the Central and Victoria lines, following a trial run during the weekend just gone.
