A van driver is fighting for his life following a crash involving a lorry on the A40 in Ruislip.

Police and paramedics were called to the A40 westbound, between the Polish War Memorial and Hillingdon Circus junctions, near RAF Northolt, at around 4.05am on Thursday (March 5).

The van driver, believed to be aged in his 30s, was taken to a central London hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The lorry driver, a 55-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at a west London police station.

The Metropolitan Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is looking into the collision. The road was partially closed following the accident, but has since reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who saw the lorry before the accident, to come forward.
