London Fire Brigade (LFB) continue to tackle a large blaze that broke out in Harefield on Saturday (October 17).

According to an LFB spokesman, crews are still currently on site, damping down deep pockets of fire in the area, which caught light at 6pm on Saturday.

Although a spokesman confirmed that the fire bad been brought under control by the early hours of Sunday morning (October 18), some crews remained on site on Monday (October 19).

In a statement on Sunday, station manager Gareth Cook said: “Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control, but this is a protracted incident with crews likely to remain at the scene throughout Sunday morning to ensure the fire is completely out.”

Ten fire engines and more than 70 firefighters battled the burning blaze which saw 4,000 tonnes of waste go up in smoke.

The waste tip, in New Years Green Lane, was closed during the incident, but has since re-opened.

Locals took to social media, posting pictures of the dramatic fire and tweeting their observations.

One Facebook user wrote: “I told you I could smell smoke as we were heading towards Uxbridge!!! Just our luck heading to the dump.”

According to LFB, the cause of the fire is currently unknown, with investigations ongoing.
