Armed police were called to Uxbridge High Street after reports of a man armed with a knife.

Officers carrying guns were seen shortly after 4pm on Monday (April 3) after police were called to reports of a man carrying a weapon.

However, police said they conducted a through search of the area and have now stood down, saying they were unable to find the suspect described.

Scott Balcony, from Balcony Shirts on nearby Windsor Street, said: “I think I caught the tail-end of the incident at around 4.30pm.

"A customer came into the shop and said there were loads of police out there.

"He said they were responding to a knife incident.

“I went outside and saw a lot of police.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “We were called at 4.07pm to reports of a man armed with a weapon.

“We have attended but found no-one matching the description of the armed man and found no injured persons.
