There has been a huge reaction to the news that the planning application to convert the historic Randalls department store in Uxbridge into housing has been approved.

Hillingdon Council has given permission to turn the Uxbridge landmark in Vine Street into 58 residential units.

The store, owned by the former MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip Sir John Randall , closed in 2015 and was bought by developers in October that year.

Since getwestlondon reported that the site would be converted into space for flats and shops, readers have been posting their reactions on social media.

The scheme involves the demolition of the 1960s extension to the building as well as the caretakers flat and warehouse buildings.

Developers have been given permission to convert part of the first floor to flats, build a second storey roof extension for apartments and external restoration work will be carried out.

There will be three new residential blocks ranging from three to six storeys high and a new retail ground floor unit.

The number of units that will be “affordable” has not yet been agreed by the council and the developers.
