A yellow weather warning of snow has been issued by the Met Office for London and the south east of England.

Up to 10cm of snow could fall in some areas and there are warnings in place of disruption to transport networks.

The weather warning says: "Showers of sleet and snow will turn more persistent during Friday evening and overnight, leading to snow accumulations of 3-6cm above 200m, with as much as 10cm above 300m, where there will be some drifting in the strengthening winds."

"Some temporary, local accumulations of snow to low levels are possible, though these will tend to melt as things warm up during Saturday morning and rain starts to dominate.

"Slippery conditions are likely, along with the risk of disruption to transport, especially on higher level routes."

For tonight, February 10, the Met Office forecast for London says: "It will remain cloudy overnight with occasional snow showers continuing, possibly turning heavier for a time.

"Winds strengthening by dawn and a widespread frost forming."

Snow fell across London for the first time in 2017 on January 12

Forecasters warn that it will feel extremely cold, with temperatures dropping to a very chilly -1 °C.

Those temperatures will only reach highs of 4 °C on Saturday as the Met Office forecast more wintry showers and strong easterly winds.

On Thursday, February 9, there were reports of some light snow showers in London, and Twitter users were quick to comment.

Snow caused chaos to London's transport network earlier this year as train routes were disrupted and Heathrow Airport cancelled flights when snow fell in January.

According to forecasters, wintry showers will continue on Sunday and it remain very cold.

So our advice? If you don't need to go outside, stay indoors wrapped in plenty of layers with a hot drink in front of your favourite television show.
