A cyclist was allegedly punched in the face in an "unprovoked" assault in Hounslow, prompting police to appeal for witnesses.

The 30-year-old man was cycling past Yates's bar, in Bath Road, just off Hounslow High Street, on New Year's Day at about 5am when he was approached by strangers.

They started making conversation before allegedly punching him in the face for no apparent reason, leaving him with a swollen cheek and a cut to his face. They then drove off in a white Audi car.

DC Steve Offield said: "This was an unprovoked attack which left the victim very shaken and I would urge any witnesses to come forward."

There are believed to have been two attackers, though there may have been more. They are described as Asian men in their early 20s.
