A man is in hospital suffering a gun shot wound after an incident in Twickenham .

Police were called shortly before 10.50pm on Tuesday (August 1) to a reports of shots heard in Chertsey Road, Whitton .

But when officers attended, they found evidence of a discharge of a firearm, but no injured persons.

Later, just after 11pm, police were alerted to a male having attended a west London hospital suffering a gun shot wound.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The two incidents are, at this early stage, being treated as linked.

"The Trident and Area Crime Command are investigating."

Police set up cordon in Twickenham

"A crime scene remains in place at Chertsey Road as enquiries continue," the spokesman added.

"There have been no arrests at this time."

The area was still taped off on Wednesday (August 2) with a police cordon in place.
