A number of London Underground lines will be partially closed while tests are carried out over the weekend.

People hoping to use the Circle, District, Hammersmith and City or Metropolitan lines should check before they set out on their journeys on Saturday (January 7) and Sunday (January 8).

It is another blow for users of the tube, as 24-hour strike action will be affecting all lines from 6pm on Sunday, if last-ditch talks fail today (Friday, January 6).

Due to new signal testing on the lines and replacement track work at Euston Square there will be several closures.

Circle line:

No service between Hammersmith and Tower Hill. However a special service will operate between Edgware Road and Barking (via Victoria).

As of Wednesday January 4, due to lift replacement work Lancaster Gate will be closed until the summer.

The station's current two 50-person lifts are nearly 30-years-old and are being replaced by two new lifts which will be fitted with CCTV and hearing induction loops to reduce background noise.

Transport for London claimed the new service will make passengers lives easier, with improved reliability and a reduction in lift failures.

District line:

No service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road, or between Earl's Court and Kensington Olympia.

Tube closures on Saturday (Jan 7) and Sunday (Jan 8)

Hammersmith & City line:

No service between Edgware Road and Barking.

Metropolitan line:

No service between Baker Street and Aldgate.

In addition at Westminster station between January 3 until late October 2017, there will be a reduced escalator service while planned maintenance work of four escalators is carried out.
