Tube strike: Chiltern Railways will not stop trains at Wembley Stadium during England vs Slovenia match

Football fans should find other ways of travelling to the stadium on Thursday (October 5)

Football fans travelling to Wembley on Thursday (October 5) evening will not be able to use Chiltern Railways, due to the Tube strike .

The company will not stop any trains at Wembley Stadium station for fans travelling to the England vs Slovenia match because of the impact of the upcoming strike.

ASLEF drivers voted in favour of a 24-hour walkout following an ongoing dispute with London Underground about working hours and pay.

The day-long strike threatens to bring the tube network to a near standstill with severely reduced services operating on all lines.

Football fans watching the match this week could have switched to Chiltern to travel to Wembley for the World Cup qualifier this week.

Chiltern Railways apologised for the inconvenience in a statement and said the reduced services were due to "safety reasons".

A spokesman said: "For safety reasons, we will not be stopping any trains at Wembley Stadium station on October 5 from 1600 until the end of service.

“It will not be possible for Chiltern Railways to provide a train service for those travelling to Wembley for the England v Slovenia football match.

"Trains are expected to be busier due to London Underground planned industrial action, and the large volumes of anticipated Wembley traffic in addition to this would be unsustainable from a safety perspective."
