Concerned people have taken to social media following the fire which damaged Trellick Tower on Wednesday (April 19) night .

Firefighters have launched an investigation into the blaze on the 27th floor, but believe it was started by a carelessly disposed cigarette on the balcony which caught bedding and towels alight.

A woman and two children evacuated the flat before the Brigade arrived. Around 200 people evacuated the block. There are no reports of any injuries.

London Fire Brigade received more than 40 999 calls, and had nearly 60 firefighters at the scene, arriving at 9.23pm and having flames under control at 10.51pm.

During that time, members of the public took to social media amid fears of the severity of the fire.
