The body of a pensioner has been found in a flat following a fire at a Brentford tower block.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus discovered a man, believed to be aged in his 70s, in the hallway of a 20th floor flat at Fraser House in Green Dragon Lane, Brentford, Hounslow on Wednesday (October 26) night.

Sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 20 people were evacuated from the 23-storey building by the London Fire Brigade .

Part of the 20th floor of Fraser House, one of six high rise blocks on the Brentford Towers Estate, has been damaged by the fire.

LFB were called at 10.39pm to reports of a fire and sent six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers to the scene.

It took just less than three hours to bring the blaze under control.

The LFB said: "Part of a flat on the 20th floor of the 23-storey building was damaged by fire.

"Sadly a man was found dead in the hallway of the flat by crews wearing breathing apparatus.

"The brigade was called at 10.39pm and the fire was under control at 1.11am."

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of a fire on the 20th floor of Fraser House, Green Dragon Lane, Brentford, at around 11.20pm.

A Met Police spokesman said: "A man, believed to be in his seventies was found dead at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is being investigated by LFB.

"A crime scene remains in place."

Next of kin have been informed.

Officers from Hounslow are investigating.

No arrests have been made and enquiries into the circumstance continue.

Fire crews from Chiswick, Acton, Richmond, Ealing and Hammersmith fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
