Transport for London has issued advice for those planning on travelling on the A406 North Circular to plan their journeys in advance to avoid disruption as more overnight closures have been announced.

The overnight closures are set to complete the current phase of the repair and improvements to the road.

According to TFL, the Iron Bridge and the Dog Lane Arches, which carry the A406 across the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines, as well as the Chiltern line into London Marylebone , are up to 100 years old and are now in need of refurbishment.

The repair work is currently taking place between Wembley and Brent Cross, and will mean five overnight closures on the section between Staples Corner and Harrow Road – in only one direction each time - from Friday December 4 to Tuesday December 8.

The overnight closures will be:

  • Friday, December 4 at 11.59pm to Saturday, December 5 at 6am – Westbound closed
  • Saturday, December 5 at 11.59pm to Sunday, December 6 at 6am – Westbound closed
  • Sunday, December 6 at 11.30pm to Monday, December 7 at 5am – Westbound closed
  • Monday, December 7 at 11.59pm to Tuesday, December 8 at 5am – Eastbound closed

The planned road works will be suspended from December 9 and over Christmas to reduce the impact to motorists travelling over the festive period, with the next phase of work beginning on January 9 2016.

A dedicated travel information page has been set up to help drivers plan their journey and can be found on the TfL website and drivers are advised to keep an eye out on the TfL traffic news Twitter .

Nick Fairholme, Director of Projects and Programmes in Surface Transport at TfL, said: “This major improvement work to the A406 is vital to ensure that this road - possibly one of the busiest roads in South East England – can continue to be used by thousands of families, businesses and holidaymakers every day.

“The end of this phase of the work will need a few more overnight closures of a section of the A406 and we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly as possible.

"We are committed to helping drivers, local businesses and local residents plan their journeys to help avoid the worst of the disruption and apologise for any delays caused during this vital maintenance work.”
