With Diwali taking place in less than two weeks, Transport for London (TfL) is reminding those travelling to the Neasden Temple to plan their journey ahead of time to avoid the major works on the A406 North Circular Road.

The works are currently taking place between Wembley and Brent Cross, and mean the road is reduced from three lanes to two until mid December.

According to TfL, the existing structures, which carry the North Circular Road across the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines, as well as the Chiltern line into London Marylebone, are up to 100 years old and are now in need of refurbishment.

Further work will also take place along this section of the A406 in the New Year.

TfL and its contractors are working to carry out a wide range of improvements, including repairs to the brick arches, replacement of the expansion joints within the road and waterproofing and resurfacing the road over the bridges.

A TfL spokesman said: “By carrying these out now, TfL can ensure that this section of the A406 North Circular can remain open for years to come without the need for potential weight restrictions.”

During the work, roads around the A406 North Circular Road, particularly around Brent Cross, will be much busier than usual.

“While these works are going on there will be delays along this section"

Delays are also expected to be longer around Wembley and Neasden, both during peak times and when major events are taking place such as Diwali or sporting events at Wembley Stadium.

TfL is therefore advising drivers to plan their journeys and use alternative routes instead of the A406 where possible, especially if heading to or from Heathrow airport.

To help drivers plan their journeys, TfL has created a dedicated travel information page on their website, which contains detailed traffic impact maps and information for drivers, bus users, freight and local residents.

TfL will also be providing regular information via its 24/7 traffic news Twitter feed @tfltrafficnews.

Dana Skelley, Director of Asset Management in Surface Transport at TfL, said: “While these works are going on there will be delays along this section and we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly as possible."
