Modernisation work at Hounslow Central tube station, including the permanent closure of ticket windows, is due to begin on Monday June 8.

Transport for London (TfL) says the refurbishment is expected to take up to a month, during which time the station in Lampton Road will remain open.

The work is part of capital-wide ticket office closures, which TfL claims will free up staff to better assist passengers.

It says the station will continue to be staffed between the first and last trains.

But opponents, including London Assembly member Murad Qureshi, have argued the reduction in overall staffing numbers across the network could affect vulnerable passengers, who are more likely to require assistance.

Changes to London Undergound also include the introduction of a Night Tube service, with trains running 24 hours at weekends on routes including the Piccadilly line from September 12.
