Three people were taken to hospital and around 200 had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at a hotel in Bayswater.

Nearly 60 firefighters tackled the blaze which broke out in the basement of the building in Princes Square on Friday (April 15) night.

They rescued two adults from the second floor and one from the first, all three of whom were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation

A further 200 people had left the building before the brigade arrived.

Station Manager Charles Hanks, who was at the scene, said: "Our crews worked hard to confine the fire to the basement and to stop it from spreading to the upper floors of the hotel.

"Firefighters rescued three people and carried out a systematic search of the building to make sure no-one else was inside."

The London Fire Brigade said it was called at 11.06pm on Friday and the fire was under control by 1.56am on Saturday.

Crews from Paddington , Kensington , North Kensington, Soho, Hammersmith and West Hampstead fire stations were at the scene, and an aerial ladder platform was used.
