Three generations of the Chaudhry family from Hounslow walked in memory of a beloved mum, wife and grandmother who lost her fight to ovarian cancer.

Fourteen members of the family from Osterley , from as young as one, were led by husband and dad Jagdish Chaudhry in The Ovarian Cancer Walk (TOCW) at the Olympic Park last Sunday (October 9), to remember Shashi Chaudhry on her birthday.

At 84, Mr Chaudhry was the oldest person to take part along with his two children and four grandchildren.

Team Queenie's Khandaan (Shashi's family) gathered on their Queenie's 74th birthday, who died from the killer disease in March this year.

Daughter Hema Chopra said: “It would have been mum’s birthday, so doing this amazing walk feels very poignant.

“What a great way to celebrate her life – and raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

“It’s so important that more women learn about the symptoms, so the disease can be diagnosed earlier.

“Mum would have loved today.”

A fundraising page was set up by the family to raise awareness and funds for cancer charities, following Shashi's death.

So far over £9,000 has been raised from funeral donations and the Target Ovarian Cancer charity walk last weekend.

Shashi's biggest wish according to her family would have been to be diagnosed earlier than she was and the money raised will go towards funding research to help find a cure.

More than 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in the UK but far too many women are diagnosed too late, according to Target Ovarian Cancer.

An early diagnoses doubles a woman's chance of surviving ovarian cancer for five years or more from 46% to more than 90%.
