Thousands of runners took to the streets of Fulham and Chelsea on Sunday morning for the first ever Vitality WestRun London 10k .

The race started on the New King’s Road and finished on Eel Brook Common, taking in a route around the streets of Fulham and Chelsea on fully closed roads .

Thousands of spectators congregated with friends and family members to take full advantage of the great view, and there was also entertainment and hospitality on hand.

Among those taking part was race ambassador Victoria Mulligan .

She was running the first 10k race since losing her left leg in a tragic boating accident which claimed the lives of her husband and daughter in 2013, and raising money for Child Bereavement UK.

She completed the race along with other Team Milligan runners and has raised £10,000 for the charity.

She said: “Before today I had never run 10k, the maximum was around 8k, however I was determined to cross the finish line regardless of whether my team and I ran, jogged or walked.

I did it for my daughter, and anytime I thought this is too painful and I can’t take another step, she drove me forwards. If I can do it, really, anyone can.”

The men’s race was won in style by Olympian Scott Overall in 29.53mins, with Lucie Custance triumphing in the women’s races in 35.36mins.

The event also included a short run for youngsters.
