Thousands of protesters are set to gather outside Downing Street on Saturday (November 28) to oppose Prime Minister David Cameron's plans to extend Britain's bombing campaign from Iraq to Syria.

Campaign group Stop the War on Facebook, which has 139 000 likes for the page, have said that they will be holding a protest outside the PM's office in Westminster from 12pm to 2pm.

So far 7,496 people have registered their attendance, with more expected to join before it starts.

It follows David Cameron's case for military intervention at the House of Commons on Thursday (26 November) where he said that launching UK air strikes against Islamic State militants will "make us safer."

The Labour party is split on the decision, with Jeremy Corbyn announcing yesterday that he cannot back UK air strikes, prompting several shadow cabinet members to hint at resignation.

A statement by STWC read: "The UK has been bombing countries for a decade and a half, at the cost of millions of lives.

"Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results meets Albert Einstein's definition of madness.

"We need to resist this brutalising and dehumanising spiral of violence."
