Fast food chain McDonald’s is upsetting more residents in Kensington and Chelsea after requesting 24-hour opening for its Notting Hill Gate restaurant.

Nearby residents are not lovin’ the proposal, and have been writing letters of objection to the council ahead of the Friday (December 9) deadline.

The application comes two months after the restaurant chain requested its Chelsea King’s Road branch also have permission for 24-hour use . That had wealthy residents choking on their Big Mac and fries.

McDonald’s has now entered a planning application to enable 24-hour opening 7 days a week at the branch on 108-110 Notting Hill Gate.

Among those who are objecting is Cllr Catherine Faulks.

She claimed a few weeks ago a man waved a machete in the restaurant, and said: “I fear that 24/7 will only encourage a drunk, rowdy, and disruptive clientele after the hours of 11pm which will blight the area and make it more dangerous for residents.”

She added: “This is a residential area at night and only popular with tourists during the day, and primarily on a Friday and over the weekend for those visiting the Portobello Road.”

One objecting resident said: “I am writing to object to this application because of its implications for noise, anti-social behaviour and litter.”

Another concerned letter of objection read: “I believe it would create too much noise and night time nuisance in what is a predominately residential area.

McDonald's wants to open 24 hours in Notting Hill Gate

“It would encourage more traffic to come to Notting Hill Gate during the hours of sleep for most people. It would set a precedent for others to open 24 hour as well.”

'Wider issues at stake'

Another objector shared similar concerns: “I hate to object to a business which is trying to flourish in the area but there are wider issues at stake.

“A 24-hour restaurant would be one thing, but a 24-hour takeaway would bring 24-hour noise, litter and unruly behaviour.

“And if one take-away can run through the night, why not kebab shops and all the rest of the greasy food outlets?”

In a joint letter, some residents said they already suffer, adding: “We already suffer from deliveries, litter noise and traffic. Extended opening hours would increase noise from customers at anti social hours with slamming of car doors and starting and revving of engines.

“We are also concerned that 24 hour opening will unnecessarily draw people from a wider area at an anti social hour leading to increase in noise and litter.”
