Kind-hearted Hounslow residents have risen to a foodbank plea to keep their much-needed donations coming to help dozens of vulnerable families.
Bags of food and toiletries have been handed in at Hounslow Library following an urgent plea to replenish stocks at Hounslow Community Foodbox.
Items included rice, noodles, pasta, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, juice, cereals, dried fruit, oil and tinned meats, veg, soups and fruit.
Toiletries were also stocked up with everyday essentials such as toilet roll, toothpaste, soap and sanitary towels.
Last week, volunteers were joined by the mayor of Hounslow Councillor Sue Sampson and Hounslow Heath Councillor Corinna Smart.
The foodbank has also recieved supplies from local schools following Harvest Festivals.
Volunteers who run the foodbank say they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people in the community and want to give a huge thanks to those who have helped.
The initiative supported by Hounslow Council sees the scheme give the basic everyday items to people in need who have been referred by JobCentre Plus and Citizens Advice.
The appeal for food and toiletries continues as the foobank needs stocks to continue helping people in need.
Cllr Sampson, said: “This is a fantastic scheme and one we are very passionate about supporting, as it helps the most vulnerable people in our borough. It will make such a difference to those in need.
“We would like to thank all those who have been donating, please keep the supplies coming in as they are still needed.
“A big thanks must also go to the wonderful volunteers who run FoodBox, without them, there wouldn’t be such a worthwhile initiative.”
Louisa Noel, Hounslow Community FoodBox volunteer, added: “The generosity and kindness of residents in Hounslow has been amazing and we want to say a big, big thank you.
“Some of those who have donated have wished to remain anonymous, but we want to make sure they know how much we appreciate their donations and want to thank them as well.
“We have a great team of volunteers and we all very grateful to everyone that donates food and money to support the service.”
