Terminally-ill children and others with complex health needs and their families were able to enjoy a special Christmas party.

Thanks to Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, the youngsters and their loved ones could join in the party at the Toy Library on Saturday (December 2).

There were presents, balloons, a ball pit and even a visit from Father Christmas himself.

For some of the children, this Christmas may be their last.

The trust used its charitable funds to put on the party for families receiving help from the children's continuing care team.

"The party went really well and we were so happy that we were able to bring some Christmas cheer to families who are going through some difficult times," said team leader Katie Randall.

She added: "We’re proud of being able to offer palliative and end-of-life care at home, so families can be together at such a difficult time, and are pleased to cut down on the time children have to spend in hospital."

The team also works closely all year round with Shooting Star Hospice, children’s social care, GPs, hospital consultants, schools and therapists.
