Vision Express opticians has opened a temporary shop in Ruislip after fire destroyed its High Street premises last month.

Customers can browse glasses in the replacement store, in a former Greggs bakery three doors away, at 106 High Street, Ruislip.

The temporary store will remain open to serve customers and conduct eye tests while the damaged store at No 112 is refurbished. Work is likely to be carried out until the autumn of this year.

It took six fire engines and 35 firefighters over three hours to tackle the blaze at the specs shop on Monday (February 22) evening.

According to London Fire Brigade (LFB), the alarm was raised by people in a neighbouring shop who noticed smoke pouring into the front of their own property.

When the first fire crew arrived, they discovered the fire at the back of the shop with the blaze spreading to a flat above.

The shop and flat were both reportedly left severely damaged by the fire, but LFB confirmed that there were no injuries and nobody was inside at the time.

A spokesperson for Vision Express said: “We’re very pleased to have be able to find a location which is familiar to our customers and we look forward to continuing to serve them.”

Customers wishing to book an eye test can visit the new location, call the existing store number, 01895 677461, or book online here .
