A teenager has been charged with the murder of an American tourist who was stabbed to death in Russell Square.

Zakaria Bulhan was charged on Friday (August 5) with the murder of 64-year-old Darlene Horton.

The 19-year-old, of Robertson House, Tooting Grove, Tooting, is also accused of five counts of attempted murder.

He is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday (August 6).

Ms Horton was knifed to death on Wednesday (August 3) evening during an attack in which five other people were also stabbed.

Another American, a Briton, two Australians, and an Israeli woman all suffered injuries in the attack.

They had all been discharged from hospital by Friday (August 5), except for the British man, who was stabbed in the stomach.

He was still in hospital, where police described his condition as serious but stable.

London mayor Sadiq Khan urged Londoners to remain vigilant in the wake of the attack, and the number of officers out on London's streets was increased.
