Two teenage boys ambushed and stabbed a 17-year-old boy to death in London's Notting Hill after trading "juvenile" insults, a court heard.

Jurors were told Fola Orebiyi was was stabbed in the neck and back after the older boy shouted, "get the knife and stab him", at the start of a trial on Tuesday January 3.

He bled to death at the scene as the two boys fled.

The two defendants, aged 15 and 17, invited Fola to a housing estate near the famous Portobello Road street market to settle the dispute, it is claimed.

Both teens, who cannot be named because of their age, are now blaming each other for the stabbing, during their trial at the Old Bailey .

Prosecutor Timothy Cray QC described the background to the case and said one of Fola's friends had a fight with the 15-year-old and Fola had "some trouble with the 17-year-old involving name-calling and insults".

Mr Cray said: "Fola seems to have thought the dispute was going to be sorted out with a fist fight.

"They went to a location just off the main road at a housing estate.

"What he cannot have known is these defendants were armed with at least one knife and the use of a knife took this dispute into a whole different league of trouble.

"It seems this wasn't so much a fight as an ambush.

"Within seconds he was singled out and stabbed to death."

The prosecution claim the younger boy pulled out a large knife and stabbed Fola in the neck, cutting the carotid artery.

But the court heard it is unclear who inflicted the second knife wound to the back which penetrated the shoulder bone.

The judge ruled in favour of the teen's wishes

The older boy later told police that the younger boy carried out the stabbing while the younger boy denied he was involved.

Mr Cray told jurors that they both now accept they were involved but deny carrying out the fatal stabbing.

"They seem to blame each other for the stabbing," said the prosecutor.

"We say this is not an either-or choice.

"The truth is they both attacked Fola together and they are both responsible for his death."

Fola was a student at Chelsea Academy and had just sat his AS level exams before he was killed.

A fundraising page filled with touching tributes to contribute towards his funeral topped the £5,000 within hours of launch.

Fola died on Portobello Road on Sunday July 3 after the incident.

The younger boy, from Notting Hill, and the older boy, from St John's Wood , west London, both deny murder.

The trial continues.
