More than 100 gins, a 400-litre copper gin still and even three gin hotel rooms - if that is your idea of heaven, then Portobello Road in Notting Hill is the place to go.

Spread over four floors, a hotel dedicated to the much loved spirit opened on Friday December 16, just in time for gin lovers to enjoy a festive drink before Christmas.

Co-director of The Distillery, Del Jones told getwestlondon the boozy project began back in 2011.

"We started the concept of a gin blending course down the road at a bar we have, the Portobello star, 171," he said.

"We came up with the idea of educating people about gin, giving the history of gin, giving the opportunity to blend their own particular, individual bottle of gin.

"Then we came up with our own recipe when we got good at that and produced Portobello Road 171."

There are three boutique hotel rooms
Guest can enjoy a Mediterranean style experience

The Distillery is located at 186 Portobello Road, just down the road from the original bar and features two bars, a distillery, and a shop.

And for those hardcore gin drinkers amongst us, you will not need to worry about grabbing a lift home, on site there are three boutique hotel rooms.

There are over 100 gin's available

Not only will you be able to rest your weary head after a night of drinking, you can also learn more about the history of gin in the museum and have a go at concocting your own blend of the spirit in "The Ginstitute".

"Down there, we're talking through the history of gin" said Mr Jones.

The 400-litre gin still can be seen on the lower floor

"We've got quite a fine collection of old antique bottles of gin, so that's more of a homage to Victorian gin," he added.

The gins available on the menu come from all around the world, and if you are planning on heading down, there is not only gin on the menu, you can also grab a bite to eat, a glass of wine or sip on a cocktail.

The Portobello Road gin and tonic comes in at £9.95

Prices range from £5.95 for a glass of wine, and if you want a taste of the Portobello Road Gin, you will have to dish out £9.95 and cocktails come in at a similar price.

Founder of Portobello Road Gin and The Distillery, Ged Feltham, said demand has been high in the run up to the opening.

“We already have bookings for The Distillery from across Europe and even as far afield as South Africa - and the positive response to the project so far has been overwhelming," he said.

He adds: "We are proud purveyors of London spirit and we look forward to exciting guests from around the globe with amazing gin and other wonderful new distillates and aged spirits.”
