A suspected drug dealer was arrested and five cars were seized during Hounslow's first police community action day.

Officers hailed the success of the event in Heston on Wednesday, February 24, which also saw dozens more people sign up to receive police alerts.

The day of action was organised in conjunction with Hounslow Council to crack down on crime and improve public relations in the neighbourhood, where confidence in the long arm of the law is lower than anywhere else in the borough.

A warrant executed that morning saw one man arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, and five cars were seized during the day for various motoring offences.

Police also signed up nearly 70 new members to its Neighbourhood Link scheme, which provides police updates and crime safety advice via phone and email.

'We're delighted with the response from the public'

The event included a public meeting in Southall with police and council enforcement officers, where residents raised issues ranging from fly-tipping to prostitution.

Inspector Dominic Hall, who led the day of action, said: "We were very happy with how it went. We're delighted with the response from the public and we've had some good feedback from our partners."

Similar community action days are planned in all four of the borough's policing neighbourhoods, with Feltham set to host the next one.

Inspector Hall said the drugs suspect had been bailed pending further enquiries.
