A "successful businessman" standing at the general election for a parliamentary seat in Hounslow has accumulated nearly £30,000 in unpaid court orders over the past five years.

Conservative candidate for Feltham and Heston , Samir Jassal, was previously the director of a company which was dissolved while owing money to, among others, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in 2011.

On his election leaflets he mentions “running a successful family business” but has £69,716 in unpaid court orders, according to the register of civil debts.

Mirror Online reported that Mr Jassal claimed he has paid £47,865 of it - but the official record does not reflect this.

He is a Tory councillor for Gravesham in Kent, responsible for business development, but is standing for a seat in west London.

Mr Jassal has been ordered to pay up by the courts five times since 2012, according to the official register of fines issued by county courts in England and Wales.

He told Mirror Online he had paid some of the fines currently registered as unpaid.

More recently, in April this year he was ordered to pay £5,818 to an unknown creditor - which according to the records remains unpaid.

But his biggest court order came from Dartford County Court in 2012, where he was ordered to pay £47,865 - again unpaid according to the official record.

Mr Jassal describes himself as a “property developer” and Companies House records show him as a director at 10 separate companies since 2009.

One of these, Jassal Building Services Ltd, was put into compulsory liquidation at the High Court in 2011 after becoming insolvent leaving three debtors.

A spokesperson for the Insolvency Service told Mirror Online that Mr Jassal’s company had three creditors when it was wound up - a local builders merchants, a financial firm and HMRC, which was looking to reclaim unpaid corporation tax.

Seven of the companies Mr Jassal was involved with were wound up automatically after they failed to file accounts.

Mr Jassal, who stood in the east London seat of East Ham for the Tories at the last general election, is currently a director of two companies, ASJ Properties Ltd and R Properties Ltd.

Only one, ASJ Properties, is currently recorded on his register of interests at Gravesham Borough Council.

Mr Jassal has been canvassing in Feltham and Heston as he fights to win the seat from Labour candidate Seema Malhotra .

His campaign has been supported by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who himself seeks re-election as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, as well as International Development Secretary Priti Patel and Business Secretary Sajid Javid.

Mr Jassal told Mirror Online that he would be producing evidence that he had paid some of the debts.

He said: "I have satisfied the largest amount and will be producing evidence of that.

"The other orders are related to that initial dispute, which is ongoing and that is why they are currently unpaid.

"With regards to Jassal Building Services Ltd, we carried out a job and unfortunately in the end they didn't pay us which caused us to be wound up."

The Conservative Party has been approached for a comment.
