Young people training for a career in uniform visited New Scotland Yard to gain an insight into life on the thin blue line.

Students from West Thames College , in Isleworth , spent the day with the Met 's assistant commissioner for professionalism Martin Hewitt and his staff officer DCI Dion Mitchell.

They discussed topics including the use of stop and search, job opportunities on the force for people with disabilities, and the changing role of the Met.

About two dozen level three students from the college's uniformed public service course were invited to the Met's HQ.

The course is designed to prepare students for a career with the police, fire brigade, armed forces or other public services.
