People living in a Stanmore road were told to leave their properties after a huge fire broke out in a back garden.

Firefighters and police were called to Woodlands Drive just before 6.30pm on Tuesday (December 5) evening to reports of large flames coming from the rear garden.

Police say the fire started in a shed and quickly spread to a residential garage.

Jenner Folwell lives nearby on Kenton Drive and says he saw flames spread to a nearby tree.

He realised something was wrong when his dog started barking in the back garden.

Speaking to getwestlondon , he said: “I had a look and saw the flames, they were really big. Then I saw a tree start to catch fire.

Thick smoke was seen coming from the flames

“I called 999 and was told they had received a few calls about it already.”

He said the fire was quickly brought under control once firefighters were at the scene, saying the flames were extinguished within about 30 minutes of their arrival.

“It was a policeman, he asked if we could evacuate the house," Mr Folwell said.

"I explained to him that we couldn’t, and he told us to stay away from the back window.”
