A proud school in Hammersmith found its loyalties firmly split during the 134th Varsity rugby match.

Two former pupils from Latymer Upper School were on opposing sides of the historic Oxford v Cambridge game, which was held at Twickenham on December 10.

Simon Davies started for Cambridge but ended up on the losing side, after the Light Blues lost 12-6 to an Oxford team which included James Faktor, who began the game on the bench.

Mr Davies, who left the King Street independent school in 2012, is reading chemical engineering at Jesus College and usually plays fullback.

He was a lynchpin of his year’s successful School 1st XV and was on our tour to South Africa in 2010.

Mr Faktor left Latymer Upper in 2009. He was Head Boy and led the equally successful team of 2008, enjoying his school tour to Australia.

He read English at the University of York, captaining the University XV and is now at Oxford’s Kellogg College on a postgraduate creative writing course.

His father Steve played in the victorious Oxford side in the 1975 Varsity match.
