A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal shooting of Khalid Abdi Farah in Southall last month.

The man was detained in Ealing at around 6pm on Saturday (December 2) and taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

On November 11, 26-year-old Khalid was shot in the chest following an incident in Lady Margaret Road while he was sat in a Ford Focus car.

A black first generation VW Tiguan pulled up alongside the Ford Focus at around 1.25am and an occupant approached Khalid's car on foot and fired into the car.

The suspect returned to the Tiguan, which was driven off at speed towards Ruislip Road and Parkway in the direction of the M4, police said.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended and Khalid was taken to a central London hospital, where he died at 3.32am.

The independent charity Crimestoppers has since announced a reward of up to £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder.

Khalid Abdi Farah was shot and fatally wounded in Lady Margaret Road, Southall, early on Saturday, November 11

Detective Chief Inspector Any Partridge, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said Khalid's family have been left “devastated” by his murder.

“We believe that a VW Tiguan which was found burnt out in Knowles Close was the car used by the suspects who shot Khalid,” he said.

“This car had been stolen from the Uxbridge area on October 15 and was using cloned plates between then and Khalid's murder.

“I am making a very specific request for assistance from the public who live in the Southall and West Drayton areas of west London for sightings of the Tiguan bearing the cloned plates 'VK 61 EEG'.

“Our work indicates this car was being used and stored around these areas during that time.”

Armed police and emergency services were called to the scene in Lady Margaret Road

He added: “Additionally, I want to appeal to petrol stations retailers in those areas about transactions that took place on November 11 in the 17 hours between the murder and the car being found burnt out.

“I am particularly keen to hear about anyone who purchased petrol directly into a green petrol container – they may even have purchased the container at the same time as buying the fuel.

“A family has been left devastated by Khalid's murder and I would urge anyone who has information that could assist this investigation, please call police or Crimestoppers.”

A post-mortem examination on November 16 gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

'We will never come to terms with this'

In a statement released by Khalid's family, relatives said he was a "kind and lovable soul".

“Khalid was such an amazing son, brother and nephew," they said.

“We can't stress enough how distraught we are that our beautiful boy was taken away from us.

“He was a kind and lovable soul that made an impression with everyone he would meet.
