Footage shows police officers coming to the help of a two-tonne luxury saloon which was stranded in the London sludge.

When push comes to shove, drivers seemingly can count on the Met Police, a video by Twitter user Jesal Parshotam shows.

Mr Parshotam filmed officer's effort to get the silver Mercedes S-class unstuck from the road side in Church Lane, Kinsbury, at around 10.30am on Sunday (December 10).

The two officers in high-vis coats can be seen braving the elements, freeing the car in a matter of seconds.

Many police teams urged people to stay at home on Sunday as snow covered much of the city and caused severe disruptions on roads and railways and even delayed flights at Heathrow Airport.

The Met Office issued a yellow severe weather warning as it expects ice to cause disruptions in west London at the beginning of the week.
