Snowfall in London is looking even more likely for the week as Betway slashed its odds for the capital getting its first white blanket of the year.

The bookmakers have changed odds for London snow to 1/2 after temperatures in London are expected to drop to minus figures by Saturday, according to the Met Office .

Betway’s Alan Alger said: "We’ve seen a good sprinkling of bets on London seeing snow this month, with the traders now very confident of the white stuff at 1/2.

Commuters should expect the frosty weather to continue through the week

"Arctic blasts are sweeping in and we’re as short as 7/4 for the UK’s coldest day on record to come in January. If the odds are anything to go by, we’re in for a cold snap to remember."

The shift comes as Britons have been warned to prepare for snow and wrap up warm as cold air from Europe heads over to the UK, bringing freezing weather .

Temperatures are expected to drop to -1 on Friday (January 13) after a cloud-filled rainy day on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Wintry showers are likely during Thursday with perhaps rather cloudy skies, then brighter on Friday but remaining cold with wintry showers."

London Ambulance Service has warned those in the capital to ensure they wrap up warm and look out for vulnerable friends and family as the temperatures plunge.

It comes after 20 people across Europe died due to adverse weather conditions.
