Illegal billboards have been removed from prominent sites in Shepherd’s Bush .

The blitz on large illuminated advertising boards took place in Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road after the local authority joined forces with community groups such as Hammersmith Society and Hammersmith and Fulham Historic Buildings Group to target displays which did not have proper consent.

A total of 16 were removed from the two roads, and it follows a crackdown on a range of advertising put up without proper consent in Munster Road, Fulham.

A total of six were taken down on that road, in a move backed by the Fulham Society.

Head of environment, transport and residents’ services at Hammersmith and Fulham Council , Wesley Harcourt, said: “It sends out a clear message to advertisers and property owners that we expect them to follow the rules.”

A similar crackdown took place in Chiswick in 2013.
