Shocking CCTV footage released by the Metropolitan Police reveals the moment a brazen gang of thieves on mopeds smashed into a Chelsea store front and took luxury handbags.

The robbery took place at the Michael Kors store in Duke of York Square on February 20.

The Met launched a fresh appeal to find and identify those involved in the incident on Tuesday (October 31).

CCTV footage from the scene shows a group of nine suspects on five mopeds pull up outside the shop.

As one of the gang throws a brick at the window, another uses a stick to smash it.

The rest of the group help to kick the window in and some run into the store, while others wait outside on the mopeds.

The video shows thieves exiting the shop with their arms laden with stolen handbags.

They quickly jump onto the mopeds and flee west along Kings Road.

A CCTV camera overlooking the store captured the moment the gang broke the window and the burglary.

Thieves on mopeds made off with luxury handbags

Detective Constable Sam Weller, of Kensington and Chelsea CID, said: "We are appealing to the public to help us identify this gang.

"They are responsible for the theft of designer handbags and we would urge anyone with information to contact us."

Detectives are also investigating whether the same group of people were involved in a burglary that took place at 12.46am on Thursday, October 26 at House of Fraser on Oxford Street.

Five suspects used a similar method of entry.

As one of the suspects smashed the shop window glass, the burglars entered the shop and left with designer handbags. All five suspects left on three mopeds.

Detectives from Kensington and Chelsea have made six arrests in connection with the investigation.

A 23-year-old man was subsequently charged with burglary. The other five were released with no further action.

Police urge anyone with information to call Kensington and Chelsea CID on 101 or to Tweet them @MetCC.
