Police want to speak to a violent man who fled a mental health unit in Hammersmith , amid reports of a spate of assaults in Chiswick which saw an eight-year-old attacked on his doorstep.

Registered sex offender Vitalij Kovaliov, was last seen at around 4.30pm on June 24 while on escorted leave from the Claybrook Centre in Claybrook Road.

However, he gave staff the slip on King Street and was last seen heading towards Chiswick.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the 35-year-old and detectives from Hounslow want to speak to him in connection to the random attacks in the Chiswick area.

Detectives from Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow are working together to trace Kovaliov.

Kovaliov should not be approached and if seen members of the public should immediately contact police via 999.

*Police initially linked Kovaliov with a spate of violent attacks in Chiswick and Brentford, which occurred in the days after his escape.

However, they confirmed on Friday July 8) that he had been eliminated from this investigation, as CCTV was released of another man wanted in connection with the assaults.
