This is the moment a convicted sex offender addressed a mayoral reception in Hounslow.

Harbinder Singh Rana attended a function hosted by Hounslow mayor Nisar Malik on June 12 at Hounslow Borough Council's headquarters.

The former director of the Anglo-Sikh Heritage Trail, which seeks to promote the religion's historic links with Britain, was revealed to have posed as a doctor to assault a string of vulnerable women.

Mr Rana was sentenced in 1986 to four years in prison after being convicted of five counts of indecent assault, 11 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of attempted assault.

The reception was held for Harbans Singh Thandi, whose father Ude Singh was recognised for his heroism in Galliopoli during the First World War.

A council spokeswoman said no official invitation had been extended to Mr Rana by the mayor or any council officer, and he appeared to have been a "guest of a guest".

"We will be reviewing our internal procedures with regards to Mayoral events, both private and public, to ensure the appropriateness of people attending mayoral and council events in the future," she added.
