A mystery hero who saved the life of a man trying to hang himself in Hounslow is being sought by police .

The good Samaritan found the man with bleeding from the mouth in Syon Lane, Osterley , in the early hours of Wednesday (August 3), said police.

He cut the man down, took the rope from him and moved him away from A tree, before calling for an ambulance shortly after 3am.

The man, who police said is aged around 45, was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital, where he remained that afternoon.

But the man's saviour had disappeared by the time the emergency services, assisted by a police search helicopter, located the patient in woodland close to Wyke Green Golf Club.

As well as thanking the passerby for saving the man's life, police want to reunite him with his phone, which they said he had dropped at the scene.

A police spokesperson said: "We have this man's phone but we know absolutely nothing about him.

"We would urge him or anyone who knows him to get in touch so we can return his phone and thank him for saving this man's life."

If this was you, or you think you know the man concerned, please call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the crime reference number 854/03/08.
