City Hall has defended Sadiq Khan 's actions to "stabilise London" following the Brexit vote after a petition re-emerged calling for him to be removed as Mayor of London .

The petition, signed by at least 54,000 people at present, argues against London having strong ties with the European Union when "the country voted out".

It also said the Mayor, in trying to "get London a space on the negotiation table", was dividing the capital from the rest of the country.

The petition has reached over 54,000 signatures

Although the Mayor openly campaigned to remain part of the EU, he has said the city must look forward and accept the vote.
