Speaking exclusively to getwestlondon , Mr Khan said he enjoyed visiting his old stomping ground, and that lessons he learned there played a big role in his career as a politician.

He said: “It was a fantastic place to work. I enjoyed going back and meeting apprentices. I was shown around and taken to my old department. I went there and cut some material for a curtain.

“The ethos at Peter Jones is fantastic. It is part of the John Lewis Partnership and they call their staff partners. They treat part-time staff like full-time staff, Saturday staff like full-time staff.

“Everyone sat together in the canteens. It felt we were all working together. I learned a lot about teamwork and partnerships.

“I learned the importance of customer service and how important it is to treat people with courtesy, to listen to and answer the questions they ask.”

“And it’s a great place to live. Businesses in King’s Road and Sloane Square respect their neighbours. Important to have symbiotic relationship where businesses respect residents.
