Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has urged Londoners to remain calm and vigilant after a woman was killed and five others injured in an attack at Russell Square on Wednesday (August 3) night.

Police investigating the attack believe that the mental health of the attacker is a significant factor in this case, but are not ruling out terrorism as a line of enquiry.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested by police on suspicion of murder, while two men and three woman were injured, as well as a woman in her 60s who died at the scene.

Currently, two of those injured are still in hospital while three others have been discharged.

In a statement, Sadiq Khan said: “The safety of all Londoners is my number one priority and my heart goes out to the victims of the incident in Russell Square and their loved ones.
