Ask Londoners what they enjoy most about the city, and it's likely many will mention drinking outside in the summer.

When it's 5pm and you're gasping, there's little better than getting away from the office and clinking cold drinks in the open.

Which may explain why The Eagle, in Shepherd's Bush, has increased its capacity by 30%.

The Askew Road venue offers a spacious, colourful and green-friendly outdoor spot perfect for sipping cold beverages.

The Eagle has increased its capacity by 30%

My guest and I ordered the Beef short rib (£8) and the Nutbourne nursery tomato (£7.50) for starters.

The former a treat in tender meat, pickled chilli and shaved salad while the latter offered a nice cultivation of mozzarella and red basil salad.

Inside the gastro pub it feels cosy, homely and atmospheric - there's even a quiz you can join in too at the end of the evening.

Furniture is new and luxury, but this doesn't reduce the feeling you're in somewhere with years of character behind it.

The Eagle offers a range of beer and wine

For mains, the Duck and rosemary short crust pie (£15) was, to my tastes, the finest dish of the night with a crust perfectly crisp.

My guest's Hot smoked salmon (£16) didn't quite hit the same heights, but sill impressed with its kohlrabi remoulade, kale pesto and poached egg.

There's a good amount of depth to the beer and wine menu too - you'll find a bottle of Slovenian here - so it'd be hard to be disappointed if you're only coming here for drinks.

And when it's hot outside, who couldn't use a glass of white in the garden?

We finish off with the Sticky toffee pudding (£6) and the Bramley apple and lemon thyme crumble (£6), both a delicious way to top of a very satisfying summer evening.

The verdict

It's not hard to see why The Eagle was so popular bosses increased its capacity, as the venue is perfect for summer.

It has a spacious beer garden, along with a cosy indoor area serving great food.
