Victoria Station has been named as the west London station with the dirtiest trains, with Paddington also shamed with a spot in the top ten.

According to a survey by watchdog Transport Focus, only 74% of those at London Victoria were happy with the cleanliness of the trains they were using to and from the station.

More people travelling to and from London Paddington were satisfied by hygiene conditions, with 81% of its users happy with how clean the trains were.

In a list of the top 19 dirtiest trains travelling to and from stations in the country, Paddington came in at 11th while Victoria was in fifth place.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the results were not a reflection of their standards: "The survey was of the cleanliness of trains, not the stations, and we don't run those train services."

The figures come from the spring 2015 survey which looked into rail passenger satisfaction.

Other London stations included were Euston station which topped the list of the dirtiest trains, followed closely by London Bridge.

Charing Cross, Waterloo and Liverpool Street were also listed by passengers, with at least a fifth of those who used the trains unhappy with the conditions.

Last year, Time Out London decided to test how clean Tube trains were by pounding the seats with hammers to see how much dust emitted from the material.

The test revealed that the Piccadilly Line had the dustiest seats, with large amounts of smoke-like debris coming out of the material.
