Nine people have been rescued and two taken to hospital following a fire at a block of converted flats in Acton which is still alight.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Horn Lane near the junction with Churchfield Road on Tuesday (October 11) at 4.20am.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the blaze broke out at a four-storey block of terrace shops and dwellings.

At one stage all of the building’s roof and third floor were 100% alight, a LFB spokesperson told getwestlondon .

Firefighters used ladders to rescue seven people from the second floor of the buildings, and two others from the roof at the rear of the building. In total nine people, including two children, were rescued.

Ten others left the building before the six fire engines arrived at the scene, and a further three people in a neighbouring property also fled before the emergency services arrived.

Crews used thermal imaging cameras and breathing apparatus to check the building and say all people are accounted for.

Two people have been taken to hospital after breathing in smoke. Their conditions are not known. Others were treated at the scene.

Firefighters had the incident under control at around 6.30am.

Station Manager Carl St Paul, who was at the scene said: “The initial crews worked exceptionally hard to rescue men, women and children from the blaze which was well developed.

"The fire was under control at around 6.30am but we’ll have crews here throughout the morning damping down. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police and fire investigators.”
