A clampdown on night-time parking ban for lorries, buses and trucks in Hounslow is being reinforced by the council.

Residents are being urged to act as the council’s eyes and ears and report large goods vehicles parked illegally on their streets at night in any part of the borough.

Following the introduction of a ban in April, people are required to continue to identify and report any lorries breaching the ban.

Hounslow council made the move was made in response to complaints from local people and as part of a drive to cut air pollution, congestion and free up the streets so residents have a place to park their cars.

The restriction applies to lorries weighing five tonnes parked on Hounslow’s streets between 6.30pm and 8am.

Signs have been placed across the borough and arrangements for out-of-hours enforcement are in place where the issue is causing a problem.

Councillor Sue Sampson, Hounslow’s cabinet member for community protection, said: “We want to end the days of the borough’s streets being used as an overnight car park for heavy goods vehicles.

“The first step to doing this was to introduce the ban, but we can’t be everywhere all the time. That’s why we need residents to tell us where they are experiencing problems so we can take action.

“Once drivers start getting fined, word will soon get around that Hounslow won’t allow them to park here overnight - and they need to park up elsewhere.”

Drivers will be fined £110, reduced to £55 if paid quickly.

To report a lorry in breach of the ban email traffic@hounslow.gov.uk with the vehicle’s exact location, make, model and registration number.
