The Red Arrows performed a fly-past as huge crowds gathered in central London today (Sunday, May 10) to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

Today's commemorations began with a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, where the Queen and prime minister David Cameron joined around 1,000 veterans and their families.

More than 2,000 service personnel, veterans and their guests then marched from the abbey to Horse Guards Parade, where a military parade took place.

Crowds looked to the skies to watch the Red Arrows and Second World War aircraft perform a fly-past as the weekend's commemorations drew to a close.

On Friday, 70 years to the day Britons celebrated the end of the war in Europe, a service of remembrance was held at the Cenotaph in Whitehall as the nation observed a two-minute silence.

Yesterday, churches and cathedrals across the UK rang their bells to mark the anniversary, before a 1940s themed party took place in Horse Guards Parade.
