A fire has broken out in a block of flats above Asda supermarket in Feltham town centre.

Reports suggest around 100 people were evacuated from the scene as fire services dealt with the blaze.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters attended to the 'incredibly fierce' flat fire at The Centre shopping centre.

A five-room first floor flat has been badly damaged.

Station Manager Lucy Macleod who was at the scene said: “When they arrived our crews were faced with an incredibly fierce, hot fire but they worked incredibly hard to contain it to the flat where it started.”

Crews from Feltham, Twickenham, Heston, Hillingdon and Southall fire stations attended the scene.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called at 9.20am and the fire was under control by 10.17am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This morning 100 people evacuated after a fire broke out at a block of flats above the Asda supermarket in Feltham town centre, and fire crews remain at the scene damping down.

Asda, The Fragrance Shop and Travelodge Hotel remain closed.

Asda car park closed

Due to the fire the Asda Feltham car park has been closed.

A driver has suggested Asda management put up a ‘car park closed sign’ at the traffic lights or somewhere else to warn motorists who may be unaware of what has happened in the area.

Hotel remains closed

The Travelodge Hotel at The Centre in Feltham has also been closed and will remain that way until Fire Brigade has given management the go ahead for them to open.

The closure is because the hotel is located in the cordoned off area and as a matter of public safety.

Asda and Fragrance Shop remain closed

Asda and the Fragrance Shop to remain closed following the fire in Feltham. All other shops are now open.

Lorraine Eggleton, Centre Manager, The Centre, Feltham, said: “All shops except Asda and the Fragrance Shop are now open. It is business as usual, but the emergency services remain on site while investigating the fire.”

“We await notification from the fire brigade as to when Asda and the Fragrance shop will be allowed to open but we can advise that they are unlikely to open for the rest of today.”
